It’s been a whole year since Little E and I had our epically fun day at Oz Comic-Con? Wow. Well I can guarantee you that we’ll be there again this year but with Phenom-A-Mum and our new addition, Little L, as well.

Who would’ve thought that a massive geek-fest would be such a great day out for the littl’uns? To be honest, I was a little worried about taking a toddler but my concerns evaporated as Little E’s smile grew wider and wider with every photo op and each high-five from a cool-costumed cosplayer. My favourite memory was watching my 2YO have a conversation with a seven-foot Wookie who only spoke in growls and howls, to the applause of a gathered crowd!
If you have even an inkling of nerd or geek in you then seriously consider taking the fam along to this year’s Oz Comic-Con for a day to remember.
What’s on at Oz Comic-Con Melbourne?
The Melbourne event will take place over the June long weekend, Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th of June. With so much time yet to go, only two megastars have been announced to appear and it will excite any Stargate fans: Rachel Luttrell & Paul McGillion from Stargate Atlantis will be doing a Q&A, posing for photos and signing autographs (please be aware that you need to pay for photos and autographs)!
Not into sci-fi? What about meeting some of the top Australian graphic novel and comic book writers and illustrators? Nicola Scott will be there, artist on DC series like Superman and Wonder Woman.
Do you like playing classic video games? Card or table top games? You can borrow from the huge range available in the Gaming Zone to sit down and play with your family and friends. Learn how to play something new and open a new world of geekiness for yourself, or revisit classics from your past.
And when you’re exhausted from all of the insanity and need a brief respite from the over-excited blabber of your kids, chill out in the Family Room. Awesome volunteers will play with your munchkins as you sit and breathe (not a child-minding service!). Little E was in the Family area for almost 2 hours last year and I had to drag him out! He even managed to cutesy his way into a free Guardians of the Galaxy cap from one of the volunteers… no one offered me one. Sad face.
I know this sounds like a sell but we genuinely had the best time last year and are utterly psyched to do it all again in June!
Perhaps I need to come up with a family costume theme and then enter the kids into the Kids Cosplay Parade that happens on the Sunday? I do believe that my mini-men are going to grow up to be mega-geeks too. Smiley face.
