The BKLK Dads don’t do normal.
This could be because we have standards far above those of you regular human beings, or because we don’t actually get what we’re supposed to be doing. Either way, when I was asked to dad-test a new bottle prep machine I knew that I needed to find that special man-approach .
Before I reveal the “Shhhhh. Secret Squirrel” creation for this post, I’d better give you some info about the funky machine I tried out:
Perfect prep machine from Closer To Nature
According to Closer To Nature, this machine:
- filters the water to remove any impurities
- delivers a small “hot shot” to kill any bacteria that may be present in the formula powder
- dispenses the correct amount of water to make up your feed for an accurate dilution
- …which means the bottle is ready to serve at body temperature – in under 2 minutes.
Phenom-A-Mum was unsure about why we would need this for our not-too-far-away bub #2. But I remember trying to boil water to just the right temperature at 2am, whilst your eyes won’t open properly, and you keep walking into the cupboards. So I was intrigued to give this puppy a spin.
Plus, I love new machines. They tend to go “Ping”! (A little something for all of you Python-nerds out there).
If you’ve read Demos’ amazing review-turned-crazy-food-paint-activity (click here to check it out if you missed this brilliance) then you’ve already seen where he set the bar for BKLK reviews. Too bloody high! And seeing as I have always been more into limbo than high-jump, I just grabbed that ol’ bar and dragged it back down to nipple level.
I’m mostly proud to present Big Kid Little Kid’s very first bespoke video review!
[Please excuse the sound quality. I think I need to track down some audio gear.]
In my defence, this seemed funnier around midnight when we filmed it. Perhaps that’s because of the exhausted delirium, or the sugar buzz from all of the Milo I ended up drinking (I kept forgetting to use actual words when I was talking. Hello, retakes!).
To sum up, I’ve gotta say that this Perfect Prep Machine is so easy, a dad can use it. Fill it up with water when you’re awake, and then just push one really big, impossible-to-miss button when you’re half-asleep. It gets a thumbs up from this dad.
Insanely easy to operate, even in the middle of the night. Reduces the risk of burning your baby’s mouth. Makes a luke-warm Milo, so no risk of burning dad’s mouth either.
It retails for $250, which is quite a big expense amongst all of the newborn accessory costs. It’s quite BIG and takes up a chunk of the bench top. The alert sounds are very loud, and may wake siblings who are sleeping through the baby cries.
Would I buy it?
I’m not 100% sure yet. I love the time and hassle saving, but am juggling the price versus the benefits. I’ll need to revisit this after bub #2 has arrived and we’ve put the Perfect Prep Machine through its paces. Perhaps a year of easier midnight-bottle-heating would balance out the cost.
